With designs for the new Lawson Centre for Sustainability close to
being finalized and groundbreaking approaching early in the new
year, preparations for construction are underway. In October, Sara
Navrady and Rodrigo Louro from lead design architects Mecanoo in the
Netherlands arrived at Trinity to discuss building materials.
Keeping the focus and commitment on sustainability, means finding
quality local suppliers. A team of 10 including local Toronto
partner architects from RDHA architects from Toronto and the team
from Mecanoo in the Netherlands, as well as Trinity staff, braved
the rain and some gloomy fall weather to visit local suppliers for
mass timber and exterior stone. Seeing the materials and the
production processes helped to narrow down some options and created
a clearer picture of just how the new building will come together.
